Fun Melbourne, FL Activities: Snorkeling

Many people are well aware of Melbourne’s claim to fame - its vicinity to the Kennedy Space Center. However, the area is about much more than space exploration. It’s also a great place for some ocean exploration. Find out about one of the fun Melbourne, FL activities that anyone can do.

Why Snorkeling?

Snorkeling is a great way to explore the beautiful Atlantic waters that surround Melbourne. Unlike some other fun Melbourne, FL activities, snorkeling requires little equipment and little skill. If you can swim, then you can snorkel.

The Space Coast has over 72 miles of coastline. In the waters of the area, you can find some incredible marine life.

Where to Go

One of the best snorkeling spots in the area is Sebastian Inlet State Park. The park has about three miles of beaches. While snorkeling, you can find silvery jacks, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel.

During the summer, the waters in Sebastian Inlet State Park are particularly clear. You can get a close-up of some of the area’s most vibrant marine life.

What to Bring

If you want to go snorkeling, then you need a bathing suit. Of course, this is something that most tourists bring on a Melbourne vacation.

You also need snorkeling gear. If you don’t bring your own, you can rent the gear at one of the many local dive or beach shops. You can also buy the gear and bring it home with you.
