Let’s take a look at the best ways to spend your days on this incredible part of the Florida coast!

Explore Space

Along the scenic shores of Cape Canaveral is where the journey to space begins. There’s no better place in the world to learn about space travel which is why no visit here would be complete without checking out some key spots.

Kennedy Space Center

Take a look into the past, present, and future of space travel at the Kennedy Space Center.

Sit down to lunch with a real-life astronaut and hear stories from space, go on a guided tour of the center, or check out a launchpad up close and in person. You can even experience what it's like to be an astronaut with the Astronaut Training Experience and spacewalk simulator.

American Space Museum and Space Walk of Fame

If you want to stand in the presence of space history, look no further than the American Space Museum. The museum is home to a wide variety of space artifacts--everything from spacesuits to launch control centers display a unique perspective on the technology that has helped humans explore the final frontier.

While you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Space Walk of Fame. Located close by at Space View Park, you can view the historic Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Shuttle monuments.

Watch a Launch

Be a part of space history! With the revitalization of the space program through companies like Space X, shuttle launches are now happening just about every month.

With plenty of spots to view launches from along the coast, there’s no bad seat in the house! Plan your trip around the next launch and watch history in the making.

Explore Nature

Florida is home to some of the most diverse and exciting wildlife in the country, and this coast is a great place to get a taste of it all. By land and by sea, there are plenty of activities to help you get back to nature.

Whether you decide to explore the beautiful beaches along the Atlantic coast, the Thousand Islands of the Indian River Lagoon, or one of the other breathtaking waterways here, you’re bound for a true taste of Florida wildlife.

You can choose from many companies offering guided tours and kayak rentals. Fin Expeditions in Cocoa Beach, Karen’s Kayaks in Melbourne, and A Day Away Kayak Tours in Titusville are some of the most highly recommended kayak tour companies around.

Some other popular nature preserves with hiking trails you might want to check out are Helen and Allan Cruickshank Sanctuary, Maritime Hammock Sanctuary, Smyrna Dunes Park, and Erna Nixon Park.

Boat Tour

One of the best ways to view the natural waterways of the area is by boat. For those looking for a bit of a thrill and access to remote spots within the Indian River Lagoon and St. John’s River, be sure to take an airboat ride. If you’d prefer a more mellow boat trip, there are also plenty of standard boats offering excellent nature tours.

There’s a good chance you’ll see alligators, manatees, dolphins, and a variety of birds so be sure to bring your camera!

Grasshopper Airboat Eco-Tours cruises the St. Johns River and Lake Poinsett on boats that fly across the water at 50 miles an hour at certain points of the tour. If that doesn’t sound quite your speed, Space Coast River Tours is a good alternative for viewing the incredible wildlife around these waterways.

Go Fishing

There are few things more exciting than reeling in a big fish, and Florida has some of the best fishing around. There are plenty of salt and freshwater fishing spots around here and a wide variety of fish species including highly sought after big game fish like marlin.

Some of the most popular spots to fish are Jetty Park and Cocoa Beach piers, Thousand Islands, and Port Canaveral, but fish can be found just about everywhere.

Don't worry if you don't have your own gear! You can rent fishing equipment from A1A Outdoors, or you can jump on one of the many charter boats in the area. All boasting years of local fishing knowledge and rave reviews, Fired Up Fishing Charters, Sea Leveler Sport Fishing Charters, and Fin and Fly Fishing Charters will help you land the fish of your dreams!

Hit the Beach

There’s no doubt at some point during your stay you’ll want to soak up the sun, wiggle your toes in the sand, and enjoy the sound of waves crashing onto one of this coast’s many world-class beaches.

If you’re looking for a tranquil and remote beach, Playalinda Beach is one of the most peaceful stretches of sand on the coast. Located within the Canaveral National Seashore, one of the longest undeveloped beaches in Florida, it's a true hidden gem.

Sidney Fisher Park and Lori Wilson Park are also beautiful beaches with restrooms, outdoor showers, playgrounds, and picnic areas making them an ideal choice for families.

Traveling with your four-legged friend or just love watching dogs have fun at the beach? Canova Beach is the only dog-friendly beach in Brevard County and a real treat for our furry friends.

For a mix of beach, dining, and activities, head over to the bustling scene at Cocoa Beach Pier. From restaurants and local art to beach volleyball and shopping, there’s more to this beach than you might expect!

Take a Surf Lesson

Welcome to the epicenter of Florida surfing. Warm water and some of the most consistent waves in the state make it an ideal spot to learn, and there are plenty of surf shops and schools that offer lessons.

If you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer, the sandy shores of Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach are your best bets. For the more advanced, Sebastian Inlet and New Symrna are great spots to test your skills.

If you’re on Cocoa Beach, Ron Jon Surf School is one of the most reputable organizations for surf lessons around. For lessons on Melbourne Beach, check out Surf Guys Surf Lessons and Camp.
